VMware Identity Manager Integration with vCloud

VMware Identity Manager Integration with vCloud

VMware Cloud Director is deprecating local user authentication for production use. Integrating VMware Identity Manager (VIDM) ensures compliance with modern authentication standards, including password policies, 2FA, and MFA support.

Preparing API Credentials for Application Integration

  1. Access the Settings Menu

    1. Log in to VMware Identity Manager.

    2. Navigate to Catalog in the top menu.

    3. Click on Settings from the dropdown menu.

  2. Navigate to Remote App Access

    1. In the Global Catalog Settings menu, select Remote App Access.

    2. Click on Create Client to register a new application.

  3. Create a New API Client

    1. Set Access Type to Service Client Token.

    2. Enter a Client ID (e.g., hostbill).

    3. Click Add to create the client.

  4. Retrieve Client Credentials

    1. Find the created client ID in the list and click on it.

    2. Note the Client ID and Shared Secret.

  5. Use API Credentials

    1. In the HostBill vCloud App settings enter the Client ID in the VIMD API ID field and the Shared Secret in the VIMD API Key field.

    2. Click Test Connection to verify that the credentials work.
