Configuring Reverse DNS using cPanel DNS
Overview
IPAM module can work with HostBill cPanel DNS module, allowing your colocation/dedicated customers to manage their PTR records directly from IPAM UI.
Configuring rDNS
To enable rDNS management in HostBill
Go to Settings → Modules and enable cPanel DNS Module.
Configure connection to your DNS server in Settings → Apps.
Create a General DNS Zone for Reverse DNS:
Go to WHM → DNS Functions → Add a DNS Zone
Create a reverse zone for your IP block.
Example: for1.2.3.0/24
, use3.2.1.in-addr.arpa
as the zone name.
Create a New IP List in the IPAM Module:
Navigate to IPAM → Add New List.
In the Network field, enter the base IP, e.g.,
1.2.3.0
.Select the correct subnet, e.g.,
/24 (256 IPs)
.In Reverse DNS, choose App Connection for cPanel DNS.
When you update the Rev DNS column or RDNS field in IP details for any IP from the list,
HostBill will automatically add or update the corresponding PTR record in the associated cPanel DNS zone.
